Lyrics

The Waiter

G. Wendell & A. Harley

You graduate with your degree,

to work at the restaurant down the street.

And you tell yourself it’s only temporary for the summertime.

Then the years just came and went.

and your ambitions have all been spent.

So I’m drinking my life away at a bar somewhere called “thataway”

so one more for the road tonight then carry me home

I’m just a waiter what else can I do?

service with a smile and I’ll be right with you.

And I’m waiting on you as I’m waiting for my own life to change.

So I can stop living day to day.

Mark left here, now he’s a star, while I’m still singing at the local bars.

So finally the last tables gone and as we’re closing up the restaurant,

I hear one round for the staff tonight; you gave it your all.

I’m just a waiter what else can I do?

service with a smile and I’ll be right with you.

And I’m waiting on you as I’m waiting for my own life to change.

So I can stop living day to day.

I’m just a waiter what else can I do service with a smile and I’ll be right with you.

I’m just a waiter what else can I do, service with a smile and I’ll be right with you.

And I’m waiting on you as I’m waiting for my own life to change.

So I can stop living day to day

We were meant for something more, we were meant for something more.

We were meant for something more…

So we can stop living day to day.

Mercy of the Queen

G. Wendell & A. Harley

Hear the axes coming down,

count the hearts come rolling out

Another jester lost his head,

points her finger says “you’re next!”

I’m on my knees, begging for your mercy.

I would be good for you,

if you were good to me

And I wonder why I keep on reasoning at the mercy of the Queen

Her mystique so elegant,

she snaps her fingers servants move

I’m on my knees to plead begging for your mercy

I would be good for you,

if you were good to me

And I wonder why I keep on reasoning at the mercy of the Queen

I’m just a pawn to your game that you play

That you play; I’m just a pawn to your game

I would be good for you,

if you were good to me

And I wonder why I keep on reasoning at the mercy of the Queen

It’s all for you…because you are the queen

This Camera

G. Wendell & A. Harley

This moment has arrived we’ve been waiting for all our lives,

I’m so glad that I found you.

I’m shaking in my shoes just standing, waiting for you.

You look so beautiful in white.

I look into your eyes, promises exchanged.

“I do,” “I do”

We run the corridor,

down the steps outside.

Cameras everywhere and I’m looking at you,

and you’re looking at me.

This camera holds the beauty of the night

This camera holds the beauty of the night

This camera holds the beauty of the night

And I’m looking at you, and you’re looking at me

I carry you into the room there are roses all around you

I have you all to myself

The candles illuminate the beauty of your face

The camera’s set in place

You can hit record, and it’s time to play.

This camera holds the beauty of the night

This camera holds the beauty of the night

This camera holds the beauty of the night

And I’m looking at you, and you’re looking at me

Many say that only true love can pass the test of time

So I say then

Then we’ll hit rewind 5 years from now

Then we’ll hit rewind 10 years from now

Then we’ll hit rewind 20 years from now

I’ll be looking at you, you’ll be looking at me

This camera holds the beauty of the night

This camera holds the beauty of the night

This camera holds the beauty of the night

And I’m looking at you, and you’re looking at me

Hallelujah

G. Wendell & A. Harley

Veronica thought it out one day, what’d be the least painful way

To leave her cruel world behind.

They found her on the bathroom floor, up against the door,

Still holding an empty bottle.

But, every little ounce of grace only comes through a pound of faith

Or wouldn’t you say?

She swallowed a months worth of sleeping pills

And two weeks later she’d awake to sing

Hallelujah

When She opened her eyes

Hallelujah

Glad to just be alive

Hallelujah

To those who survived

Edward closed the blinds, questioned it in his mind,

Could it be better on the other side?

So he grabbed the rope, as he signed his note

“I love you all, goodbye.”

I think we’re thrown into troubled water, not to drown, but to be cleansed

Sing amen

He took a deep breath, and a leap of faith, when the rope snapped and gave way,

He gasped…

Hallelujah

He put his anger aside

Hallelujah

And his anger behind

Halleluljah

A new chance at life

Hallelujah

To those who survived

It should choke you all up inside the thought of a mother burying her own child

To those who survived tell your story and sing along

Hallelujah

Ghost of a Child

G. Wendell & A. Harley

Here in this gray painted room,

listening till they call your name

They come, take you away,

and I say, “I’ll be here waiting.”

And this hurts just so you know,

to bare this burden on my soul

You had no choice in the matter.

I silenced your voice and pushed you away.

And now I’m haunted inside.

By the ghost of a child,

Screaming at night, and I’m burning alive.

She can’t sleep,

but her mind is exhausted.

She can’t eat,

but her heart is starving.

You had no choice in the matter.

I silenced your voice and pushed you away.

What child can forgive, if not given its chance to live?

You had no choice in the matter.

I silenced your voice and pushed you away…

Even Angels Cry

G. Wendell & A. Harley

What I’m ‘bout to say, is gonna hurt you

And to see you cry is gonna rip my soul in two

But every time I said “I love you”…

“Baby I lied.”

It’s gonna be awhile until I forgive myself,

And living without you is gonna be a living hell.

Cause you say you don’t even understand

how you loved a shallow man

And so they say,

The truth will set you free,

So angel fly away, from me

Cause baby, even angels cry.

I wanna thank you for your love, and all the time we spent.

I know I’m nothing, but a disappointment.

Cause angel I hurt you,

and you’re the only one that’s ever been good to me

And so they say,

The truth will set you free,

So angel fly away, from me

Cause baby, even angels cry.

Boys Will Be Boys

G. Wendell & A. Harley

I ran into her in the city the other day

I was caught off my guard fumbling words to say

She had bloomed into something beautiful that I didn’t expect

Looking back now I’m probably just her past regret

She awkwardly introduced me to her new boyfriend

Now looking back I wish I’d been a better man to you.

I guess I’m just a past love mistake

and I’m face to face with a heart I used to break

Forgive me; I was careless, naïve, and young,

Like any other boy, just having fun.

And as the saying goes “boys will be boys”

But a young girls heart’s not to be made a toy

And that’s what separates the men from the boys.

Late into our twenties with our own careers

With wedding plans and talks of a family growing near

But, I still had some wandering eyes

And they locked upon a stranger out late one night

I’ll make the story short, just tell you how it ends

She found someone else’s earring underneath our bed

Never got a chance to show her that engagement ring,

So I hope she’ll hear about it in this song I sing for you

Guess it was a one-night mistake

And I’m sleeping in a bed that’s never made

Now that I’m looking back and I can admit

I was a young man afraid to commit.

If I knew now, what I knew then

Oh let me try this all over again

It’s if I knew then what I know now,

Would I have ruined it anyhow?

For a Girl

G. Wendell & A. Harley

How long will it take, before we put the brakes on?

Our eyes open, but we’re drunk behind the wheel

If you only knew how much I feel at peace

Lying next to you, I smell the perfume of your hair.

There’s not a moment of despair, in the air, in the air.

There are nights where we bare our souls.

There are nights where we hide from ourselves.

Yet something’s changing inside me that’s new.

Something feels different.

It has to be you.

Our feelings preserved now, like they’re trapped in a jar.

We question ourselves, all I know is

I love to lie awake next to you watching you breathe.

Holding you against me, just watching you dream.

Or so it seems.

There are nights where we bare our souls.

There are nights where we hide from ourselves.

Yet something’s changing inside me that’s new.

Something feels different.

It has to be you.

Walking through cold winter nights we’d see each other breathing.

Your hand feels so warm in my hand, but is there any other feeling?

There are nights where we bare our souls.

There are nights where we hide from ourselves.

Yet something’s changing inside me that’s new.

Something feels different.

It has to be you.

I don’t wanna let you go, it has to be you.

Money

G. Wendell & A. Harley

I was on the train back from the city

Saw a yuppie drinking dirty Grey Goose martini’s with

Other corporate exec’s.

Nasdaq, Dow Jones, up about 4%,

there’s another suit with a loosened tie around his neck

just like you would expect.

He sold all his shares of AAPL,

Retirement starts at the closing bell.

He’s thirty-something and he’s in control.

But, what’s the buy-out rate on your soul?

Who needs love when you’ve got money?

Who needs friends when you’ve got money?

Nothing in this life ever comes for free.

So, buy it all if you’ve got money.

Mr. Jenks got by day to day

Sweeping and mopping floors barely getting by

On just minimum wage.

He got home late one afternoon,

they called his lucky numbers and his dreams came true.

Can you believe he won the lottery?

Just then, old friends, new friends, family, ex-girlfriends calling him up

Saying “Brother can you help me out? I’m in debt.”

But, what’s the buyout rate on their souls?

Who needs love when you’ve got money?

Who needs friends when you’ve got money?

Nothing in this life ever comes for free.

So, buy it all if you’ve got money.

So write a dumb pop song to make money

It’s the only way you’ll make it in this industry

Doesn’t matter how you play or what you have to say.

Please don’t be fooled, you’re just a tool to the industry.

To make money, make money.

Who needs love when you’ve got money?

Who needs friends when you’ve got money?

Dear Mr. Record Company, here’s your pop single.

You buy in, and sell out, buy in, and sell out…

Eye to Eye

G. Wendell & A. Harley

There once was a time

in the midst of our prime,

Where I took you beneath my wing

just to show you everything.

Like music and girls,

what else mattered in the world?

It was the truth before a lie,

or an eye for an eye.

And we saw eye to eye, eye to eye.

A new girl from our scene

somehow got in between.

We had an argument or two.

You hit me and I hit you.

But, apologies were made a

nd our friendship was saved.

It was the truth before a lie,

or an eye for an eye.

And we saw eye to eye, eye to eye.

If life kicks you off of your cloud,

who’s gonna catch you falling down.

If life kicks you

off of your almighty cloud then we’ll see

Eye to eye.

So come off your almighty cloud, then we’ll see…

Blessing in Disguise

G. Wendell & A. Harley

With every new destruction, comes creation

and with every broken heart, new love is made.

With every mistake made.

With every tear of sorrow comes laughter.

With every fallen failure brings success.

With every mistake made, there comes an expense paid.

When all things come out right, and blindness brings into sight.

Then right before your eyes ,comes this blessing in disguise

may you realize

For every door closing, a new way opens.

And for every broken heartache new love is made.

With every mistake made there comes an expense paid.

When all things come out right, and blindness brings into sight.

Then right before your eyes ,comes this blessing in disguise

may you realize

Hold on, hold on, or let it go

move away or then stay here.

When all things come out right, and blindness brings into sight.

Then right before your eyes ,comes this blessing in disguise

may you realize

All Good Things

G. Wendell & A. Harley

I don’t remember, when it all began,

Yet I know when it all came to an end.

And I so wish, I never laid eyes on you,

And that I never came over that afternoon.

Because that night, something new began,

That would shape the person of who I am.

You showed me the world from a different view,

In the sweet serenity.  Lying next to you.

If you don’t know what you’ve missed

Then I’d say ignorance is bliss.

And I don’t want to live in regret,

So I remind myself from time and time again

All good things must come to an end

Every girl I’ve been with ever since then,

Falls short to you by comparison.

Perhaps I can learn, to forgive myself someday,

For losing you because, you are the one that got away

If you don’t know what you’ve missed

Then I’d say ignorance is bliss.

And I don’t want to live in regret,

So I remind myself from time and time again

All good things must come to an end

Is it too late I often worry,

To say “I love you still and I’m sorry?”

But someone new has you to hold

While the man in the mirror is alone and getting old, I’m getting old.

If you don’t know what you’ve missed

Then I’d say ignorance is bliss.

And I don’t want to live in regret,

So I remind myself from time and time again

All good things must come to an end

I can’t remember when it all began…

I applaud your courage to allow the world a glimpse into your soul. It is truly a fascinating, sometimes gut wrenching journey. These emotions transcend generations, gender, race and religion. Thank-you for reuniting me with “my” touchstone moments. You have such a precious gift, thanks for sharing.
